Before we get started on updates, reminder that the Labor Day social event is this Sunday, Sept 3; and our next Board Meeting is Tuesday, Sept 12. Check your email or TownSq for the Zoom link posted a few days prior to meetings.
Pool
Lakeline and Kay Redden Pools are open until October 1. Lifeguards are now staffing only weekends through Labor Day. As has been the case for the last few years, especially with the excessive heat this summer, we can extend the season if there is a demand from homeowners.
Lakeline pool is scheduled to be re-plastered and tile maintenance this winter. Kay Redden will have some minor upgrades to equipment enclosures to make it easier to maintain the splash pad.
SOCIAL
Based on the huge turnout for our only social event last year, the board has plans for more community events, starting with Sunday, Sept 3 5-7PM Nerf Wars at Kay Redden Park. The Winter Festival is also scheduled for December 3rd at Kay Redden. If you have suggestions for events, or better yet would like to volunteer for the social committee, contact the board here or email board@westsidehoa.org.
LANDSCAPING
If you haven’t seen the literal or figurative signs, we are under a once-a-week watering restriction for Cedar Park. Your day depends on house number, so check Cedar Park’s site. Also note the hours (between 7PM - 10AM) so your watering doesn’t immediately evaporate.
We all know the strain our lawns are under, and will not cite for brown lawns or dead patches. We do expect our neighbors to keep them neat and tidy, edged and cut the crabgrass that seems to grow better than the lawn in this drought. It is not recommended to re-sod or do any major fix until conditions improve later this fall. It is a good idea to give your trees some attention with watering — those dead shrubs or trees from the freezes aren’t likely coming back to life, but as with the lawns, replacement is not expected until later.
LAKELINE TREES
As you may have noticed, we have made progress removing the dead cypress trees (from the last ‘unprecedented’ drought in 2011) along Lakeline Boulevard and were in the process of replacing them this spring, but the drought has stressed our initial plantings, and immediate plans for another round this winter. We are in the process of working with the City of Cedar Park and our landscaper, Sunscapes, to create a master plan for tree plantings along Lakeline, as we share responsibility with the City — they maintain center median and sidewalks north of Buttercup Creek. This will include a variety of native, drought tolerant (relatively) species of shade and ornamental.
Plans for updating ornamental landscape on corners of common areas is also on hold until weather conditions improve.
Westside Monument
One of the last open lots in Westside is being built out (celebrate!), so the monument is going to be moved from the corner of Buttercup Creek and Lakeline, to Zach Russell and Lakeline. We are ensuring the sight lines at the intersection won’t be impaired, and getting review from the City.
ROOFS! and Modifications
Many homeowners have had roof repairs thanks to the hail in June (was that the last rain??). This is a reminder that all modifications - roofs, solar, storage sheds, painting, landscape, etc. - require approval from the Modification Committee. Exact replacements of fencing and roof still require the form, but approval is automatic. Modification approval is a record for you and the HOA that the work is done in accordance with CCRs and will not need to be remedied if questions arise in the future.
If you have submitted a request and have had to wait for a response, that brings us to the last topic…
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
We are down to one awesome volunteer on our Modification Committee, so we need more to ensure our community standards are maintained, and your work can start faster. This is not a huge time investment (until our next hail storm!) and training and help are provided.
Other volunteers are welcomed for board vacancies, our re-invigorated Social Events Committee, and anything you would like to contribute (newsletter editor anyone??). Please contact Jim.Smitherman@goodwintx.com
